Sudan and Yemen market prices: who still reports, and where
Staple price observations from Sana'a-governed Yemen, all three sources counted: 6,914 in 2023, 4,488 in 2024, 829 in 2025, 0 in 2026. Last month with a row: WFP 2024-05, REACH JMMI 2024-06, FEWS NET 2025-10. Aden-governed Yemen over the same years: 8,878, 8,153, 5,425, 3,211.

Method
Sources. WFP VAM food prices via HDX (CC BY-IGO 3.0), FEWS NET Data Warehouse market prices (status Collected), and REACH Joint Market Monitoring Initiative (JMMI) district medians. Months from 2023-01 are used; items are mapped to about 15 staples, units are normalised to kg, L or each, and markets are matched to OCHA COD-AB admin1 and admin2 pcodes.
What is restricted, and why. Only WFP prices are published. FEWS NET's terms say some data "may not be redistributed or reused without the consent of the original data provider", and its rows here are third-party (FAMIS Sudan, WFP, FAO/FSTS). IMPACT's site terms reserve all reproduction rights. Permission is being requested from both. Until they grant it, their rows count toward the coverage map and the counts above, and none of their prices, exchange rates or market names are published. Every published USD price uses a WFP exchange rate.
Yemen's two rials. The rial issued in Aden and the rial circulating in Sana'a-governed areas
trade about 3x apart. Every Yemen row carries a currency_zone (aden or
sanaa) from the ACAPS areas-of-control map (2026-04-08, CC BY), with per-market overrides
where a market's own reported rate shows it trades in the other zone. A price is only ever converted
with a rate from its own zone: the same market's WFP rate that month, else the WFP median for its
admin1, else the WFP median for its zone. Zones are one 2026 snapshot, not a time series.
Sudan exchange rates. WFP reports market rates for Khartoum and Port Sudan only, so most Sudan rows use the WFP national median for the month.
Known gaps. Sudan 2025-08 and 2025-09 have no exchange rate from any source, so those WFP rows have no USD price. REACH JMMI Yemen food prices end with the 2025-05 round; its 2026 rounds carry fuel, water and non-food items only, which still count as coverage. JMMI rounds after 2024-06 cover government-held districts only. FEWS NET Yemen prices are mostly governorate averages and match admin1 only.
